Barbara Martinez is a powerhouse communications professional, community advocate, and visionary leader based in Orange County, New York. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in the Bronx, Barbara has built an inspiring career that seamlessly blends public service, media, and business development with a heart for community impact.

In 2019, she took the helm as Executive Director of the Goshen Chamber of Commerce, where she ignited a transformation. Under her leadership, the Chamber was revitalized through enhanced member benefits, a strategic partnership with a local radio station, a mobile-friendly app, and the launch of the innovative Facebook Live series “Chatting with the Executive.” Her forward-thinking initiatives brought visibility and connection to countless local businesses.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic—despite being furloughed from her role—Barbara remained a fierce advocate for small businesses. She was instrumental in ensuring the Goshen Chamber’s Farmer’s Market was deemed essential and worked alongside Orange County officials to relocate it to a safe, government-approved location. The impact of her initiatives continues to resonate, with many of her programs still active today.

Barbara’s personal series, “Where in the Hudson Valley is Barbara Martinez,” became a vibrant showcase of the region’s entrepreneurial spirit. Blending the charm of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, the curiosity of Dirty Jobs, and the wit of I Love Lucy, she brought humor, heart, and visibility to small business owners through her unique storytelling style.

Determined to create even more avenues of support during the pandemic, Barbara launched a weekly Facebook Live Happy Hour, daily livestream interviews, and virtual Coffee Chats—all focused on keeping local businesses connected and thriving. Her passion for community collaboration led her to partner with entrepreneur Orlando Lallave to co-found Emporium Square Artisan Market, a bold indoor retail space that gave artisans and small businesses a vital platform during uncertain times. Though the market closed in early 2022, its impact remains a testament to Barbara’s dedication and innovative thinking.

Barbara’s professional background also includes serving as Director of Communications for the Orange County Chamber of Commerce and as Confidential Secretary to the Sheriff at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communications (Summa Cum Laude) from Marist College and an Associate of Arts and Sciences with Honors from SUNY Orange.
